Ingredients
Scale
Beef Mixture
- 1 lb (450g) ground beef
- 1 small onion, finely chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 cup frozen mixed vegetables (peas, carrots, corn)
- 1 tbsp tomato paste
- 1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
- ½ tsp salt
- ½ tsp black pepper
- ½ tsp paprika
- ½ tsp dried Italian seasoning
- 1 tbsp all-purpose flour (optional, for thicker filling)
- 1 cup beef broth
Topping
- 1 can refrigerated biscuit dough (8 biscuits) OR 2 cups homemade biscuit dough
- ½ – 1 cup shredded cheddar cheese
Instructions
- Preheat the Oven: Preheat your oven to 375°F (190°C) and lightly grease a 9×13 inch baking dish to prepare for the bake.
- Cook the Beef Mixture: Heat a large skillet over medium heat and cook the ground beef until it is thoroughly browned. Add finely chopped onion and minced garlic; sauté for 2 to 3 minutes until they soften and become fragrant.
- Add Vegetables and Seasonings: Stir in the frozen mixed vegetables, tomato paste, Worcestershire sauce, salt, black pepper, paprika, and dried Italian seasoning to the beef mixture, mixing well to combine all flavors.
- Create the Sauce: If a thicker filling is desired, sprinkle the flour over the mixture and stir continuously for 1 minute. Then pour in the beef broth and simmer the mixture for 5 to 7 minutes until it slightly thickens.
- Assemble the Bake: Spread the cooked beef and vegetable mixture evenly across the bottom of the prepared baking dish. Arrange biscuit dough pieces on top, spacing them slightly to allow airflow. Sprinkle shredded cheddar cheese evenly over the biscuit dough.
- Bake: Place the assembled dish uncovered in the preheated oven and bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the biscuits turn golden brown and are completely cooked through.
- Rest and Serve: Remove the bake from the oven and allow it to cool for 5 minutes. Serve warm by spooning into portions and enjoy your comforting meal.
Notes
- If you prefer a thicker filling, the optional flour is recommended before adding the beef broth.
- Frozen mixed vegetables can be substituted with fresh vegetables if available, adjusting cooking time accordingly.
- You can use either refrigerated biscuit dough or homemade biscuit dough depending on your preference.
- For a cheesier top, increase the cheddar cheese amount or add your favorite cheese blends.
- Leftovers can be refrigerated for up to 3 days and reheated in the oven for best texture.
