  • Author: Hugo
  • Total Time: 20 minutes
  • Yield: 4 servings 1x

Description

This recipe for Sautéed Mushrooms with Garlic Butter highlights a simple yet flavorful way to prepare mushrooms by concentrating their natural umami and finishing them in a rich garlic butter sauce with optional savory flavorings. Perfect as a side dish or topping, these golden brown, tender mushrooms are enhanced by a hint of fresh parsley.

Ingredients

Scale

Mushrooms

  • 2 lb mushrooms (use any variety; cut large ones in half)

Cooking Fat and Flavorings

  • 2 Tablespoons butter
  • 1 Tablespoon avocado oil
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced

Additional Flavoring Options

  • 1½ Tablespoons worcestershire sauce OR
  • 1½ Tablespoons balsamic vinegar OR
  • 1½ Tablespoons soy sauce OR
  • 1½ Tablespoons white wine

Seasoning and Garnish

  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • Chopped parsley or other herbs, for garnish

Instructions

  1. Prep the mushrooms: Wash and prepare the mushrooms by cutting any large mushrooms in half so that all pieces are relatively the same size for even cooking.
  2. Dry sauté mushrooms: Heat a pan over medium-high heat, adding only the mushrooms in a single layer. Stir occasionally and wait for the mushrooms to release their liquid, about 3 to 4 minutes. Drain the liquid or continue cooking until it evaporates, concentrating the mushroom flavor and enabling a golden brown sear.
  3. Add garlic, butter, and flavorings: Once the liquid has evaporated, add the avocado oil, butter, minced garlic, and your choice of worcestershire sauce, soy sauce, balsamic vinegar, or white wine. Continue sautéing for another 3 to 4 minutes until the mushrooms turn golden brown.
  4. Serve: Turn off the heat, season with salt and pepper to taste, garnish with chopped parsley or herbs, and serve immediately.

Notes

  • Using a variety of mushrooms can add depth and texture to the dish.
  • Make sure to remove or evaporate the mushroom liquid to get a proper sear and avoid sogginess.
  • The flavoring options (worcestershire, balsamic vinegar, soy sauce, or white wine) can be chosen based on personal preference to create different taste profiles.
  • Serve as a side dish or use as a topping for steaks, pasta, or toasted bread.
  • Use avocado oil for a higher smoke point to prevent burning during sautéing.
