Delicious and easy-to-make Mini Grilled Cheese Hawaiian Rolls feature sweet and fluffy Hawaiian rolls layered with melted cheddar cheese and optional crispy bacon, all brushed with a flavorful garlic and herb butter mixture and baked to golden perfection. This bite-sized treat is perfect as a party appetizer or a cozy snack.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 pack Hawaiian rolls (12-count)
  • 810 cheddar cheese slices or preferred cheese
  • 4 slices turkey bacon, beef bacon, or chicken bacon (optional)

Butter Mixture

  • 4 tbsp melted butter
  • 1/2 tsp garlic powder
  • 1/2 tsp onion powder
  • 1 tsp dried parsley
  • Pinch of salt and pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven: Preheat your oven to 350°F to ensure it’s ready for baking the rolls evenly.
  2. Prepare the rolls: Slice the entire sheet of Hawaiian rolls horizontally, keeping the rolls intact so the top and bottom halves remain whole.
  3. Add cheese: Evenly layer the cheddar cheese slices on the bottom half of the sliced rolls.
  4. Add bacon (optional): Place the cooked bacon slices over the cheese if using turkey, beef, or chicken bacon for an extra savory flavor.
  5. Reassemble: Place the top half of the Hawaiian rolls back over the cheese and bacon layers.
  6. Mix butter and seasonings: Combine the melted butter with garlic powder, onion powder, dried parsley, salt, and pepper to create a flavorful butter mixture.
  7. Brush butter mixture: Generously brush the butter mixture evenly across the tops of the assembled Hawaiian rolls to add flavor and help with browning.
  8. Bake covered: Cover the rolls with foil to keep moisture in and bake in the preheated oven for 12 minutes.
  9. Bake uncovered: Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5–7 minutes until the top is golden and slightly crispy.
  10. Serve warm: Slice between the rolls and serve immediately while the cheese is melted and gooey for the best experience.

Notes

  • You can use any cheese you prefer, such as mozzarella, Swiss, or pepper jack for different flavor profiles.
  • For a vegetarian version, omit the bacon and add sliced tomatoes or spinach for extra flavor and texture.
  • Make sure not to separate the rolls entirely when slicing to keep them together for easy serving.
  • The garlic and herb butter can be prepared ahead of time and stored in the refrigerator.
  • Covering with foil during the initial bake keeps the rolls soft, while removing the foil finishes them with a golden crust.
