Description

A delicious and hearty dish featuring tender garlic butter steak bites served over creamy sweet potato mash, perfect for a comforting yet elegant meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Steak and Garlic Butter

  • 1 lb (450g) sirloin steak or rib-eye, cut into bite-sized cubes
  • 3 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 4 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 tsp fresh thyme leaves (or 1/2 tsp dried thyme)
  • 1 tbsp olive oil
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1 tbsp fresh parsley, chopped (for garnish)

Sweet Potato Mash

  • 2 large sweet potatoes, peeled and cubed
  • 2 tbsp unsalted butter
  • 1/4 cup milk (or dairy-free alternative)
  • Salt and pepper, to taste
  • 1/4 tsp ground cinnamon (optional, for added depth)

Instructions

  1. Boil the Sweet Potatoes: Place the cubed sweet potatoes in a pot, cover with water, add a pinch of salt, and bring to a boil. Cook for 15-20 minutes, or until fork-tender.
  2. Mash the Sweet Potatoes: Drain the sweet potatoes, return them to the pot, and add butter, milk, salt, pepper, and optional cinnamon. Mash until smooth and creamy.
  3. Prepare the Steak: Pat the steak cubes dry with paper towels to ensure proper searing and season them evenly with salt and pepper on all sides.
  4. Sear the Steak: Heat a skillet over medium-high heat, add olive oil, then carefully add the steak cubes. Sear the steak bites for 3-4 minutes on each side until they develop a golden brown crust.
  5. Make the Garlic Butter Sauce: Reduce the skillet heat to medium, add butter, minced garlic, and thyme leaves. Cook until the garlic is fragrant and the butter is melted, then toss the steak bites in the garlic butter sauce to coat them evenly.
  6. Serve: Spoon the creamy sweet potato mash onto plates, top with the garlic butter steak bites, garnish with freshly chopped parsley, and serve immediately while hot.

Notes

  • Use a high-quality cut of steak like sirloin or rib-eye for the best flavor and tenderness.
  • Make sure the steak cubes are dry before searing to get a nice crust.
  • Can substitute milk with any plant-based milk for a dairy-free version.
  • Optional cinnamon in the mash adds a subtle warmth but can be omitted if preferred.
  • Serve immediately for the best taste and texture.
  • Leftovers can be stored in the refrigerator for up to 2 days and reheated gently.
