Description

This Easter Dirt Cake Casserole is a fun and festive dessert perfect for spring celebrations. Featuring a crunchy Oreo crust layered with a creamy combination of cream cheese, pudding, and whipped topping, it’s finished with colorful pastel candy-coated chocolates and mini Oreos for a playful ‘dirt and candy’ effect. It’s easy to assemble, requires no baking, and is sure to delight both kids and adults alike.

Ingredients

Scale

Crust

  • 14 oz crushed Oreo cookies (reserve 0.5 cup for topping)

Filling

  • 8 oz softened cream cheese
  • 0.25 cup softened unsalted butter
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 3.4 oz instant vanilla pudding mix
  • 2 cups cold milk
  • 8 oz thawed whipped topping (Cool Whip)

Topping

  • 0.5 cup mini Oreo cookies
  • 1 cup pastel candy coated chocolates (such as M&M’s)

Instructions

  1. Prepare the crust: Crush all the Oreo cookies, reserving 0.5 cup of crumbs for the topping. Press the remaining crushed Oreos firmly into the bottom of a 9×13 inch dish to create an even crust layer.
  2. Make the cream cheese mixture: In a mixing bowl, beat the softened cream cheese, unsalted butter, and powdered sugar together until smooth and creamy. Then gently fold in the thawed whipped topping until the mixture becomes light and fluffy.
  3. Prepare the pudding layer: Whisk the instant vanilla pudding mix with cold milk until the mixture thickens. Allow it to rest for five minutes to fully set, then fold it carefully into the cream cheese and whipped topping mixture.
  4. Assemble the casserole: Spread the prepared filling evenly over the Oreo crust in the dish. Sprinkle the reserved Oreo crumbs, mini Oreos, and pastel candy-coated chocolates evenly over the top to decorate.
  5. Chill and set: Cover the dish with plastic wrap or foil and refrigerate for at least two hours, allowing the layers to set and flavors to meld perfectly before serving.

Notes

  • For best results, use room temperature cream cheese and butter to ensure a smooth filling.
  • You can substitute the pastel candy-coated chocolates with other festive candies or sprinkles for different occasions.
  • Make sure to chill the dessert for the full two hours; it tastes best when well set and cold.
  • This dessert is best consumed within 2-3 days if refrigerated properly.
