Scale
Filling
- 1/2 cup light brown sugar, firmly packed
- 2 tablespoons salted butter, softened
- 1 tablespoon McCormick® Ground Cinnamon
Pastry
- 3 sheets puff pastry, thawed
- 1 large egg, beaten (for egg wash)
- Confectioners’ sugar, for dusting
Instructions
- Prepare the filling mixture: In a small bowl, combine the light brown sugar, softened salted butter, and ground cinnamon. Mix thoroughly until the mixture is smooth and well blended. Set aside.
- Preheat the oven: Set your oven temperature to 400°F (204°C) to allow it to heat up while you assemble the pastries.
- Roll out puff pastry sheets: On a lightly floured surface, lay out one sheet of thawed puff pastry. Using a rolling pin, gently roll it out to smooth creases and slightly enlarge it if desired.
- Spread the cinnamon filling: Evenly spread one third of the cinnamon-brown sugar butter mixture over the surface of the first puff pastry sheet.
- Stack and repeat: Place the second sheet of puff pastry on top of the first, then spread another third of the cinnamon filling over it. Repeat the process with the third sheet, topping it with the remaining cinnamon mixture.
- Create snowflake shapes: Using a sharp knife or a pizza cutter, carefully cut the stacked pastry sheets into desired snowflake shapes or patterns. Make sure to cut through all the layers evenly.
- Apply egg wash: Using a pastry brush, lightly brush the tops of the cut pastry snowflakes with the beaten egg. This will help achieve a shiny and golden finish when baked.
- Bake the pastries: Arrange the cut pastries on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper or a non-stick baking mat. Bake in the preheated oven for about 15 to 20 minutes or until the pastries are puffed up and golden brown.
- Cool and dust with sugar: Remove the pastries from the oven and let them cool slightly on a wire rack. Once cooled, dust generously with confectioners’ sugar for a snowy, festive look.
- Serve: Enjoy your Cinnamon Snowflake Puff Pastry warm or at room temperature as a sweet breakfast or dessert treat.
