  • Yield: 4 servings 1x
  • Diet: Low Salt

Description

A quick and flavorful Chinese-style ground beef and cabbage stir-fry featuring tender ground beef, crunchy cabbage, and aromatic garlic and ginger, all brought together with savory soy sauce and a hint of sesame oil. Perfect for a healthy weeknight meal.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb lean ground beef
  • 4 cups green cabbage, thinly sliced
  • 4 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1-inch piece fresh ginger, grated
  • 3 tbsp low-sodium soy sauce
  • 2 tbsp vegetable oil
  • 3 green onions, chopped (for garnish)
  • 1 tsp sesame oil

Instructions

  1. Prepare Ingredients: Mince the garlic and grate the fresh ginger. Thinly slice the green cabbage into strips to ensure they cook quickly and evenly.
  2. Heat Oil: In a large skillet over medium-high heat, heat 2 tablespoons of vegetable oil until it shimmers, indicating it’s hot enough for cooking.
  3. Cook Ground Beef: Add the ground beef to the hot skillet and cook for 5 to 7 minutes, stirring occasionally until it is browned and fully cooked through, breaking apart any clumps.
  4. Sauté Garlic and Ginger: Stir in the minced garlic and grated ginger with the cooked beef. Sauté for about 1 minute until fragrant, being careful not to burn the garlic.
  5. Add Cabbage: Add the sliced cabbage to the skillet and cook for 3 to 4 minutes, stirring frequently until the cabbage softens slightly but retains some crunch.
  6. Add Soy Sauce: Pour in 3 tablespoons of low-sodium soy sauce and mix well to coat all the ingredients. Let it cook for another 2 to 3 minutes to blend the flavors.
  7. Finish and Garnish: Drizzle the stir-fry with 1 teaspoon sesame oil for a nutty aroma and flavor. Remove from heat and garnish with chopped green onions before serving.

Notes

  • Use lean ground beef to reduce fat content and keep the dish light.
  • For a spicier version, add red pepper flakes or diced fresh chili with the garlic and ginger.
  • Ensure the cabbage is thinly sliced to cook evenly and quickly.
  • Low-sodium soy sauce helps to control the sodium intake while still offering rich flavor.
  • Serve with steamed rice or noodles to make a complete meal.
